For parents and seniors in high school heading to a UC or Cal State next year, first of all, congrats! Second of all, you are not done with the application process!
Be sure to go onto your college website and submit your Statement of Intent to Enroll, or “SIR”. It’s usually a non-refundable $100 deposit that is due on May 1st, though this can technically vary by college.
Why it’s a BIG deal:
Your on time deposit is telling the college that “Yes” you’re accepting their admissions offer, and you will be attending in the fall. Your lack of deposit is telling the college “No thanks”. The deposit is non-refundable and missing the deadline could jeopardize your admission status.
Please, only submit a SIR to one campus. It’s not cool to try to submit to multiple colleges to give yourself more time to think about it, and it might get you in trouble.
